Over the past 26 years, as a pediatric Occupational Therapist,  I identified a need for a long term sensory regulation tool for students to use while seated in various clinical, school and home environments.  I tried many temporary fidget tools but struggled to find the "just right fit" solution that wasn't a distraction for the child and their peers.  In addition, many current sensory strategies quickly lost their appeal and effectiveness. The vision for My Seat Buddy started by using various materials such as a sweatshirt with a variety of weighted fillers for the arms (ie. dried rice, lentils, cherry pits and plastic beads).  Ultimately, the final product was designed using durable and appealing tactile fabrics and materials, such as 4-way stretch neoprene and glass beads. Unlike other weighted products, My Seat Buddy is firmly affixed to the chair, keeping it off the floor.  My Seat Buddy can be used in a variety of ways:  on the legs, around the core, over the shoulders, or simply as a hand fidget tool.  After years of trial and development with consistent positive feedback from students and teachers, I am now offering My Seat Buddy as a product for other OTs, SLPs, parents, special educators and schools.
